This work in cast stone, wood and steel is inspired by the film Blade Runner.
Rachel Karklin is originally from Latvia and has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989.
"My work is never preconceived and at every stage of the process I allow myself big shifts from the initial idea to the final image. I love the world of different materials: how they manifest complexities and offer unlimited routes through their so different properties.
Experiences from my past and present life and the exposure to different environments and cultures continue to deeply affect my work. I graduated from the University of Latvia with a degree in Computer Science and had a long career as a computer programmer. I studied stone and bronze casting, ceramics, metal sculpture building and took several life sculpting workshops in various California venues."
