Selective Memory Collaboration - Jane Burton and Tyler Burton, 2013
variable x 84 x 30 in
305 x 213 x 76 cm
"Selective Memory" is the first collaborative installation from sisters Jane Burton and Tyler Burton, started during a two-month residency the artists participated in at the Banff Art Centre in Banff, Alberta, Canada in 2012. The work is comprised of over 1,200 porcelain rocks suspended from the ceiling over scores of ancestral faces on the floor below, and reflects on family memories and the realization that we are each fragments of a larger whole.
Overall height is variable depending on ceiling height. The threaded rocks are 72" high and are shown suspended approximately 36" above the floor. The steel cables extend an additional 72" above the rocks. The work is pictured still in progress with the ancestral faces not shown. Artists Jane Burton and Tyler Burton are pictured underneath the piece.
