Steven Maslach has developed and mastered a personal technology in direct cast glass, which produces a pure transparency to preserve surface and color stability.
“Copper Figure” is a unique sculpture, cast in a sand and graphite mold with sheets of copper on its surface, oxidized from the heat of the casting process. The exposed glass areas have a smooth textural finish, creating a sharp contrast to the oxidized copper. Maslach applied thin dichroic filters behind these open glass contours to reveal the very essence of glass in transmitting and reflecting color.
