FRANK MORBILLO

Biography
Frank Morbillo creates elegant abstract sculpture that evokes the movement of change as defined by entropy. The slow, but dramatic, effects of time on organic elements is also a recurring theme. He explores movement in his Dancers series, catching a dynamic attitude, yet avoiding literal or sentimental description. His mastery of the materials is apparent in his steel or stainless steel and bronze work. In these, he often combines patinaed fabricated steel with cast bronze in an original process. The resulting parabolas of smooth, earth-toned, steel surfaces juxtaposed against reticulated cast bronze in a contrasting green patina are unique to his work.

Morbillo sees function as an integrated element of art. His bold water sculptures are a deliberate reflection on yet another of nature's elements and his sculptural furniture pieces command the space they occupy with equal verve.

Statement
"I grew up in New York, so its architectural experience has stayed with me. For the past fifteen years, however, the landscapes of Montana and New Mexico have been the overriding influence in my work. The contrasts and textures of these landscapes have had a profound effect on me."
