ARCHIE HELD Biography

Archie Held was born in Palo Alto, California and has been creating metal sculptures since the 1970's. He worked on his undergraduate degree at UCLA in painting, sculpture and graphic arts from 1975 to 1979. He continued at UCLA working on his Master's degree in sculpture. He is the winner of the Jim Marcelius Memorial Scholarship Award for Sculpture 1980.

Held's flawlessly designed and executed water sculptures combine a clean architectural context with sensuously flowing curves. As he employs only the best available materials to fastidiously construct his incomparable fountains, they invariably provide many years of carefree delight and assured enjoyment. The artist's minimalist sculptural works exhibit the same concern for pure form and rhythmic energy. Held's outstanding pieces are found in many public, corporate, and private collections throughout the world.
